Experience.

Having served as trial counsel, appellate advocate, and mediator in civil cases for over 35 years, Amy Wind is fluent in the language and strategy of litigation. She is skilled at understanding the facts and law of a case and in examining parties’ assumptions, feelings and real-world needs.

Drawing on her experience mediating hundreds of legal cases, Ms. Wind can crystallize parties’ understanding of their own underlying interests, and help parties engage in a thoughtful and realistic analysis of their prospects for obtaining relief through the judicial system. She is a relentlessly optimistic coach and guide, focused on ensuring that parties and counsel generate and consider all possible options in order to make and consider all realistic settlements.

Balance.

As a professional neutral, Ms. Wind is dedicated to the proposition that a mediator must maintain strict neutrality and deal even-handedly with all parties in a dispute. She also assumes that people have reasons for the perspectives they hold and the positions they take – and that it is the mediator’s job to understand the roots of differing views in a dispute. She is committed to working with all individuals and organizations non-judgmentally and with compassion.

The work of Fair Wind Resolutions often involves individuals locked in intense conflict. Amy Wind is comfortable with expressions of strong emotion, and embraces the role of manager of difficult conversations between people in fundamental disagreement.

Creativity.

Many matters can be worked out if parties are encouraged to think through their motivations and actual needs, and to generate alternate ways to meet their interests. Amy Wind makes sure that parties have an opportunity to develop and consider new ideas beyond their opening offers and demands. In legal cases, this includes non-monetary items that may have considerable value, in addition to the monetary demands that are common in litigation.

Ms. Wind’s life experience undoubtedly contributes to her ability to work with a diverse range of people and her inclination toward considering the apparently “impossible.” In her younger years, she traveled extensively by hopping freight trains across the country and hitchhiking trucks, ships and planes in long odysseys through Eastern Europe, Central and South America, and East and West Africa.
